First XI: You
You've loved the sport since you were little. Or you just discovered it through your kids' eyes. You understand it inside and out and could play it or coach better than anyone you just watched on TV. Or out at the fields. You know the Americans are great if we're talking about the women's team, but that we didn't invent the sport and we're still catching up. You realize its history is rife with tension and corruption and tragedy and a real dark side, but also beauty and culture and tradition and humanity and goosebump-inducing spectacles from Uruguay to London to Rio but also on the youth fields down the street.
And by you I mean me. And we. You are the sport. And you recognize it belongs to the people of the world. It can bring us together. All of us.
