If you're looking for a good soccer read, the best book I've ever read is:

In a nutshell, its a bunch of stories about cultural clashes all over the world, as reflected by intense rivalries by clubs in those nations (Celtic vs. Rangers as a metaphor for religious battles, Hakoah of the Austrian league as a surviving, purely Jewish club. Hooliganism is a theme and Foer delves deep into the traditions of spectator violence.
The book has taken some heat for being too much from an American perspective, but, well, Foer's American, so it fits.
